As much as I enjoy the luxury of a high end hotel chain, in the same breath I want to declare my love for boutique hotels. They are quaint, fun and extremely quirky. These hotels have fewer rooms, are tastefully done and mostly reflect local heritage.
If you are heading to Pondicherry, look no further, La Closerie is an amazing place, a mere 100 meters away from the beach.
True to the history of Pondicherry, even this hotel is seeping in Indo-Fench heritage. There are just 7 rooms and each of these come with wooden panelings, elaborately carved beds, subtle lights and beautiful drapes. Some of these rooms even have wooden staircases, giving that old world charm to the already artistically done decor.
There is a quaint, little pool in the courtyard, partly shaded. One can spend idyllic afternoons here, feet dipped in water, rummaging a magazine and sipping some freshly brewed coffee.
Also there are plenty of patios and sit-outs in this hotel, giving those perfect holiday vibes. They have a mini library, where they have interesting books to keep you occupied when your sore feet are just not budging for anything else.
Finally the food, breakfast is a part of this package and one can expect a simple, delicious array of omelette, muesli, toasted bread and fresh fruits.
Just keep in mind these things before booking your stay here:
- Only breakfast is served here, lunch and dinner options are not available. But considering the plethora of options you have for food in Pondicherry, this is not a concern in any way.
- Owing to visual aesthetics, stairs do not have a railing and this makes it unsafe for children. So if you are travelling with the little ones, I suggest you look for other options.
Overall this is a charming place, serene, comfortable and stylish for that relaxing holiday experience.
